Ontario’s police watchdog says a provincial police officer is facing two assault charges in the arrest of a man who was left with serious injuries.
The Special Investigations Unit says the OPP constable has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon in the arrest of a 43-year-old man.
The SIU says Bracebridge OPP officers were called to a Canadian Pacific Railway yard in Georgian Bay around 3:20 a.m. on July 10 after a reported trespassing and break and enter.
The agency has said officers tracked a suspect to a retail area where they shot him with a stun gun and arrested him.
The SIU says the man was sent to hospital where he was diagnosed with serious injuries.
The OPP constable who has been charged is set to appear in a Bracebridge court on Dec. 20.
